Maria Sifianou

Maria Sifianou is Professor of Linguistics. She studied in Greece (B.A. in Greek and English) and in England (PGLELT, M.A. and Ph.D. in Linguistics). Her publications include the books Politeness Phenomena in England and Greece (Oxford University Press, 1992/1999/2002), Discourse Analysis (Leader Books, 2001/revised edn Hillside Press 2006) and a number of articles in edited books and international journals. She has co-edited Themes in Greek Linguistics (Benjamins, 1994), Anatomies of Silence (Parousia Monograph Series, 1999), Linguistic Politeness across Boundaries: The Case of Greek and Turkish (Benjamins, 2001) and ΣύγχρονεςΤάσειςστηνΕλληνικήΓλωσσολογία: ΜελέτεςΑφιερωμένεςστηνΕιρήνηΦιλιππάκη-Warburton (Current Trends in Greek Linguistics: Essays in Honour of Irene Philippaki-Warburton) (Patakis Publications, 2003). She has acted as a referee for Oxford University Press and various international journals. Her main research interests include politeness phenomena and discourse analysis in an intercultural perspective
