Virginia-Maria Blani

She holds a B.A from the Faculty of English Studies from the University of Athens and an M.A in Translation Studies from the University of Manchester. The title of her dissertation is “The Application of Nord’s Model of Text-Analysis to the Translation of the “Guidelines for the Prevention of Stroke in Patients with Ischemic Stroke or Transient Ischemic Attack” into Greek”. She speaks German in addition to English and Greek. She has worked as an English teacher in the private sector since 2006, in Vocational Training Institutes, in the Greek Police Academy and in the Fire Brigade Academy. Her main interests are teaching English to young learners, issues relevant to the teaching of ESP and the translation of technical texts. She has participated in the design of a “Fire Terminology Textbook which is currently used as the main textbook for teaching of Fire Terminology in the Fire Brigade Academy. She is currently a full-time associate at the RCeL and takes part in the preparation of the exams in English for the State Certificate of Foreign Language Proficiency. She is also a PhD candidate at the University of Athens. The area of her research is  on the teaching, testing and assessment of writing in English language exams and more specifically on the analysis of candidates’ scripts produced in the writing module of the Greek State Certificate of English Language Proficiency (KPG) in terms of Text Grammar (i.e. Text organization, cohesion and coherence). Her main supervisor is Professor B. Mitsikopoulou and the other two members of her doctoral committee are Professor M. Sifianou and Assοciate Professor G. Mikros.
