Second Language Acquisition & Testing in Europe

The RCeL has been accepted as member of SLATE, a European-wide research network brought together through a common interest in the relationship between second / foreign language development, levels of second-language proficiency, and language testing research. It includes projects involving a number of European languages, including Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Italian, Norwegian and Swedish. The main research question which SLATE partners (one of which is RCeL with its KPG English Corpus) are attempting to answer is: “Which linguistic features of learner performance (for a given target language) are typical at each of the six Common European Framework of Reference for Languages levels?” To study the question above, SLATE partners are conducting research using a common research design, tasks, procedures, and analyses so that findings are comparable.
